The FCC Sunset Clause allows wireless carriers to shut down their analog networks (AMPS) after February 18, 2008. AirLink's Host RJ-11 IP Gateway was designed to enable seamless migration to digital cellular data networks without modifying dial-up host applications. The Host RJ-11 IP Gateway provides dial tone to the host and translates the dialed number to the IP address or domain name of the remote Raven-E. It then establishes a TCP connection over the cellular network to that Raven-E. Data is exchanged using TCP/IP packets. When the host hangs up, the TCP connection is dropped and another call can be made. The Host RJ-11 IP Gateway can also receive TCP connection requests and appear like an incoming data call to the host.
